38' HOLLAND RECOVERY

This weekend was packed with a 17 hour day and a phenomenal job to lift a 38 foot lobster boat, weighing approximately 14,000 pounds that sunk to about 50 feet deep. The vessel got hit on the starboard stern corner by another boat and sunk in under 4 minutes. Another diver assisted me on this and we attached 18,000 pounds of lift bags to get it off the bottom. Everyone aboard the vessels were uninjured, thankfully!

BUILDING THE NEW BARGE

I should have shown this progress through multiple posts, but big things have been happening at Days Off Diving! As you can see in the pictures, this started as a double pontoon last year and has turned into a quad pontoon. I cut the one boat in half and attached it to the other boat, which had a motor. I upgraded to a 12,000 lb. winch among many other upgrades. This can be used to lift and set moorings, be a platform for salvage jobs, transport construction materials to islands, and be used as a dive platform. Huge change from last year! Thank you to everyone who helped.

19' GENERAL MARINE RECOVERY

I got the opportunity to lift a 19’ General Marine. It sunk on the mooring in a bad storm from over the weekend. The vessel land upside down, which made it a bit of a challenge to rig up to lift and a bit nerve-racking to be under. I’m very thankful for these opportunities and enjoy the challenges involved to have a successful lift without injuries and anymore damage done to the vessel!

MONHEGAN, MAINE

Went out to Monhegan for a dive and here’s what I found. A wheel (prop) for #chumagaincharters, a sunken tuna boat and some critters!

FAQ

WHAT TO DO IF I SINK MY SLED, SNOWMOBILE, ATV OR VEHICLE THROUGH THE ICE?

Stay safe and stay away from the area to avoid going through the ice again, mark the location on your phone/GPS or physical markers on land.  Note the direction of travel and if the object sunk immediately or slowly.   Contact Days Off Diving to coordinate the recovery.

LOST (PHONE, KEYS, OBJECTS/ITEMS) IN THE WATER?

Drop an anchored buoy marker if possible.  Take coordinates of the location, note physical land markers and depth of water.  Take note of wind, tide, and currents.

WHAT IS IN ROV?

An ROV is an underwater drone that gives me the ability to search for and locate items for longer periods of time than I can dive for on one tank of air. For example, inspection items like vessel hulls and salvage jobs.  I can also attach a hook to some objects underwater and pick some of the lighter objects up.  I can also take underwater pictures and videos.

WHAT MOORING SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?

I can simply rebuild your existing mooring/anchor or I can build or install a brand new one for you.  I can do this either by diving on the mooring/anchor or lifting it with my barge.
